Bord can see your money, but it can't touch it. Here's what that means and how we keep it that way.
Bord can see your accounts, not move your money
Bord connects to your bank through Plaid with read-only access: balances, transactions and holdings for the accounts you choose to share, and nothing else. That connection can't send payments, make transfers or place trades. So even if someone broke into a Bord account, they couldn't use it to take your money.
You never give Bord your bank password. You sign in to your bank inside Plaid's own screen, the same one used by Venmo, Robinhood and thousands of other apps, and your login goes to your bank, not to us.
If you ask Bord to pay someone, it sends you a Venmo or Cash App link and you finish the payment yourself in that app. Bord never sees your login for either one.
How we protect your data
The tokens that link Bord to your accounts are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the key is kept separately from the database. A copy of the database on its own would only hold scrambled tokens that can't be used.
Every table in our database uses row-level security, so the database itself refuses to show one person's data to anyone else, on top of the checks in our app.
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Sign-in is handled by Clerk. Card details are held by Stripe or Apple and never touch our servers.
How Bord uses AI
To answer you, Bord sends what the question needs to our AI providers, OpenAI and Anthropic. They process it to write a reply and aren't allowed to train their models on it. We never sell your data or use it for ads. The Privacy Policy has the full details.
Deleting means deleted
Disconnecting a bank cuts Bord's access at Plaid and deletes that bank's data from our database. Deleting your account from Settings removes your financial data, your conversations and your profile in one go. You don't have to email anyone, but you can, and a person will take care of it.
